Tyrosine is a nonessential amino acid produced inside the body from phenylalanine. This amino acid is an important nutritional ingredient and factor for the synthesis of the neurotransmitters epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine. Thyrosine is also necessary to produce a number of important hormones including thyroxin, which serves an important role in regulating the metabolism, skin health, mental health and growth rate.

Tyrosine is believed to be effective when used in connection with a variety of disorders including Parkinson's disease, depression and other mood disorders. This is due to its role as a precursor to a number of neurotransmitters in the brain that are responsible for transmitting vital nerve impulses. The results of a few preliminary studies indicate a possible beneficial effect of tyrosine, along with other amino acids, in people suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Tyrosine is a mild antioxidant, reacting with free radicals that can cause damage to cells. It is also thought that tyrosine promotes sexual drive. Tyrosine may also be used as a mild appetite suppressant.

Dosage Recommendations
