Flaxseed Oil / Linseed Oil

The seeds from flax (botanical name: Linum Usitatissimum) create vegetable oil called flax seed oil (also known as linseed oil). Flax seed oil is one of the oldest oils and has been used for centuries. The flax seeds are edible, and are one of the most concentrated plant sources for omega 3 fats.

Eating 1-2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds daily is an alternative to fish oil supplements for vegetarians and vegans, and for those concerned about high levels of heavy metals in fish.

Flax seed's main nutritional benefits are contained in its lignans and omega 3 fatty acids. Lignans benefit the heart and have anti-cancer properties.
